Basic research studies are intensive, systematic studies carried out in a laboratory environment that improve our scientific knowledge base and understanding of the natural world at its most fundamental level. Basic studies orginate when scientists question the processes that lead to damage or disease and propose hypothesesis or theoretical situations to investigate them. Well-conducted basic research adds to or enhances our current body of knowledge in a particular field.
The International Heart Institute of Montana Foundation works closely with the scientists at The University of Montana who conduct basic research. Because of the strength of this relationship, our pre-clinical research laboratories are able to stay on the forefront of developments being made in the cardiovascular sciences. Sharing the information we discover is one of our primary objectives. Outreach to the greater community, nation, and world with valuable educational opportunities is a commitment we take seriously.
