Since joining the UM community, Sprang has promoted the creation of a joint graduate program in biochemistry and biophysics, served on Interdisciplinary Science Building advisory groups, and is currently a member of the Graduate council, among other activities.
Previously, Sprang was Professor of Biochemistry and chaired the graduate program in molecular biophysics at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and was an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Sprang continues an active research program to investigate the molecular basis of cell signaling mechanisms.
Dr. Sprang is a native of California, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from California State University at Lost Angeles and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin—Madison.
